Core training is just what the doctor ordered for many a golfer – just what you need for that extra power and distance. Just like any other sport, the core serves as your motor. THE CORE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERYTHING! The modern golf swing is definitely a “core-focused” movement; unlike the older swing technique of lower body action dominant.
“Core training”, ah, two familiar words bandied around by many a hotshot golfer – but do you really know how it can benefit you, or better yet, do you really know its meaning?
The core is defined as the your body’s midsection – to be exact, your abdominal area. If you have a weak core section or a lack of flexibility in rotating your trunk, your chances of successfully hitting a long drive are next to nil.
This happens all the time with senior golfers, no offense meant. They have absolutely ZERO core strength, absolutely ZERO flexibility, and when it comes to yardage of the tee – don’t ask. Then you’d hear the senior golfers whining about all those yards they wish they could hit, if only they were younger, if only they were stronger, if only this, if only that – we’re not generalizing here, but we see it a lot in the seniors, thus the reference.
If you are like the above senior golfers, we know how it feels – but regardless of your age, you can work on this at home with the right equipment with little fuss. Improving your core rotational strength and flexibility does not require equipment in a gym or club.
You can improve your core strength and posture with just a handweight (for rotating back and through, or by grabbing it) or by performing uncomplicated posture exercises. You can even stretch at work, right from your office chair’s comfort. Sitting upright and reaching around your chair, turning as far as you can to the right, then turning to the left.
When it comes to core training, those are just a few exercises you can perform, but they are just the exercises you want to do to build up that core of yours for golfing.
You will be amazed at how much power you acquire in your swing when you implement a core training for golfers program. Even if that’s all you did for the time-being, you’d be way ahead of the game.
However, I am willing to wager the golf bag I had Arnold Palmer himself autograph that once you start, no matter how slow it may be, you’ll be itching for more. This does not have to be a gut-busting routine! All it takes is ten minutes a day, twice a week, and you’re good.
