The Marriott Desert Springs in Palm Desert, California is one of the most fun and scenic resort golf courses in the California desert. The courses are the two 18 – hole beauties set up for the resort visitor. I recently had the opportunity to play this course with out of town guests who were staying at the massive desert hotel which has long been the crown jewel in the Marriott chain.
Designed by acclaimed golf architect Ted Robinson’s known as ‘King of Waterscapes’ the ‘Palm’ and the ‘Valley’ courses, as you might imagine, have lots and lots of water hazards.
Created to provide golfers of all ages and abilities an enjoyable round the greens are well maintained and relatively flat. The course is littered with bunkers, water hazards and strategically placed trees.
There are newer high tech drive golf carts with state-of-the-art navigational and computing systems. The on-board GPS computer provides graphic layouts of each hole and computes exact yardage to the pin and other points of reference.
One of my playing partners did not have his clubs, so the pro shop provided him with top rate with Taylor made clubs. This is a great way to go if you are flying in to the desert and don’t want to drag your own clubs through the airport. There is also a Taylor Made Performance Lab directly across from the pro shop if you need to correct that “hitch” in your swing or are simply looking for more distance.
We ordered lunch as we tee off from the 18th hole and it was waiting for us at Sand Trap & Wedge restaurant. They had a nice menu of sandwiches and drink and when we were done we sat around and talked about the round.
While the guys were spending the day on the golf course, my wife and her friends spent the day at the Spa Desert Springs.
After a day of golf you might try dinner at one of the fine restaurants on property, including the Lakeview and and the Japanese styled restaurant the Mikado.
On your next vacation to Palm Springs and the desert resort cities of Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells and La Quinta I highly recommend spending at least one day golfing at the Marriott Desert Springs.
